What is this qualification?
The Swim England Qualifications Level 1 Swimming Assistant course is the first step towards becoming a qualified swimming teacher. The course is designed to introduce aspiring swimming teachers to the basic principles of teaching. This qualification will enable you to become a swimming teaching assistant. In order to become a fully qualified teacher you must complete the Swim England Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification.

What is covered in this qualification?
Preparation for teaching/coaching activities, delivery of prepared activities within a session, roles and responsibilities, health & safety in the aquatic environment, effective communication.

It is Swim UK’s policy that all learners read Swim England’s syllabus prior to the start of the course.

How is the qualification assessed?
This qualification is assessed through both written and practical assessment tasks. There is no exam.
Pre-requisites
  • To register on the course learners must be 16 years of age.

​There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved. Therefore, it is recommended for learners to have Functional Skills in English pitched at Level 1.

Results
