What are Traineeships?
A traineeship is an education and training programme with work experience that provides young people with the skills and experience required to prepare them for their future careers by helping them to become ‘work ready’.
Designed to help young people aged 16 to 24 who don’t yet have the appropriate skills or experience, traineeships provide the essential work preparation training, English, maths and work experience needed to secure an apprenticeship or employment.
In order to be eligible to complete a Traineeship candidates need to meet the following criteria:
What is included?
The Traineeships are a 12 week programme run every quarter (30 hours per week maximum) including a minimum of 100 hours high quality unpaid work placement.
The following courses/training may be included in the Traineeship:
Swim UK will also pay for a DBS check, that you will need to have before attending your work placement.
Work placements should be of high quality, involve activities that provide a real employment experience, be tailored to the needs of the learner and be sufficient for the learner to develop new workplace knowledge, skills and behaviours.
Swim UK will work closely with learners, parents and local employers to help arrange work placements that will be mutually beneficial to all parties that will help each learner develop new skills and knowledge.
At the end of the work placement, employers will ideally be able to offer each learner an interview for a job or apprenticeship vacancy. If there isn't a vacancy available, employers should provide the learner with an exit interview alongside meaningful written feedback to help attain future employment elsewhere within the industry.
In addition, you will have regular contact with the Learning Support Coordinator who will monitor your progress and can discuss any problems you may have.
