What is this qualification?
This qualification is aimed at those who wish to become a Paediatric First Aider in the workplace. The course offers instruction covering a broad range of emergency scenarios that can be faced by people responsible for the welfare of infants and children. Persons gaining this qualification will know that first aid is the responsibility of everyone involved in the working environment. This course is recommended for anyone working, or preparing to work, in an early years environment. It is also very useful to anyone responsible for the safety of children.
The course is run over a total of 12 hours. At least 6 hours of self directed study is also necessary for successful completion of this course. Certification requires 100% attendance.

- Dealing with unresponsive children - Airway obstructions - Shock - Wounds and bleeding - Fractures and dislocations - Head, neck or back injuries - Conditions affecting the eyes, ears or nose - Chronic medical conditions or sudden illness - Effects of extreme heat or cold - Bites, stings and poisons - Electric shocks.
How is this course assessed?
This course is assessed through practical demonstration and a multiple-choice examination on the final day.
There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved. Therefore, it is recommended for learners to have Functional Skills in English pitched at Level 1.
